Thailand's General Election 2011: What Now???

The general election passed and Phue Thai party, the party associated with Thaksin won. This is the second general election after the 2006's coup (in case you don't remember, the party won the first election after the coup as well).

Looking at Twitter and Facebook, I can see that now there are different groups of people tweeting and/or posting about Thai politics: some are angry with the election results that Phue Thai won and afraid that the country will stuck in "Thaksin Regime" forever; some are happy with the results and that the country will be a "true democartic country" being able to escape old style bureaucratic system; while some (yes, we have to talk about many groups of people here--in this blog) is unsure what to feel but more afraid of what tomorrow and days after will bring to Thailand.

I guess, I am in the last group. I support neither DEM, nor PTP. People who know me well would say I don't support anyone. Yes, it is true. But this blog is not about me. Let's talk about what I observed from the election and its series of events.

1. Yingluck entered politics for 6 weeks and now she is the first female Prime Minister of Thailand (68th world's female country leader).

2. Confusion about whether the party want to put its impression as with Thaksin or without Thaksin since it first campaigned Thaksin-related Ad (such as "Thaksin Thinks, Yingluck gets done") then it tried to avoid bringing Thaksin up in their campaign's Ads.

3. But then, Thaksin pretty much did all the talk after the exit poll revealed that PTP won while his sister (who is the PM now) held a press conference hours later

4. The former PM Abisith V. has just resigned from DEM's party leader position. And the public (and maybe even among the DEM's members) wonder who will take charge of the party. Will it be one of the new gen, like Korn or Apirak or old warriors, like Chuan, Therdpong, or even Suthep. I'm putting my bet on Chuan though.. hehehe

5. (Back to PTP) Last time PTP won, it didn't turn out well. It had 2 PM: Samak and Somchai. I know khun Samak passed but I don't know where khun Somchai is now.

6. Rumors about the Coup is stirring up again though big names in the Royal Army insisted that there won't be one.

7. Palanchol Party, a relatively new party from Chonburi, now has 7 seats in the parliament. Seems to me that not only Thaksin knows how to clean up names without having directly be in politics...

8. PAD's Vote No campaign was extremely unsuccessful. (No hard feeling, okay? This is just my opinion. You can disagree)

So far 8 points and counting. I am not sure how long khun Yingluck will last in this war. All I know is that it is too easy just to wish for democracy. We will have to face so many Thaksin, Abisith and other politicians who share same mentality. Is this the time Thais should start caring more about themselves: not Thaksin, not Abisith, not someone else? Huh?
